This Saturday I will be giving a public presentation, with video, at the Presidio Yacht Club in Fort Baker at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge in Sausalito. This place has special memories for me – last summer’s successful row from San Francisco to Hawaii launched from there.

The presentation is free and will be followed by a “Santa Maria” Barbeque dinner downstairs at 7:00 p.m, cost $20.

Please RSVP by Friday, January 9th to reserve your seat to or 707-888-0861, and please indicate your preference for chicken or tri-tip. (NOTE: Please make sure you contact Mark, not me! I won’t be able to allocate tickets – I’m just the speaker…)

After dinner there is a band playing upstairs in the club bar – the band members are Charles Van Damme, Jake Baker, Eugene Huggins, Joe Tate & David Kemp. Mark Tishler tells me these guys are all very talented musicians – so bring your dancing shoes and invite all your friends. There is a $5 cover for the band.

Numbers are limited, so contact Mark as soon as possible if you want to come. I look forward to seeing you there!

  • sounds great…wish I were still in massage school, 2 hours up the road came across a quote… Thought for the Day: “You can’t cross a sea by merely staring into the water.” RABINDRANATH TAGORE, 1913 Nobel laureate for literature

  • There was a comment about tea, and though it was a minor point, it think it worth saying that there is organic redbush (rooibos)tea that is caffeine-free, widely available in healthshops in the UK, also selling in Australia, possibly even the USA. One trade name is Tick Tock, but there are others as well.
The taste is a bit different, but a very acceptable drink. Rita Savage

  • The talk was great, me, my girlfriend Kim and her son Silvio really enjoyed it and got inspired to go off on our own adventures once he’s a bit bigger. I personally have 18000 ocean miles under my belt and know how it’s out there. i’ve never gone solo and don’t know if my brain would allow me to arrive safely. you have my respect!
we wish you all the luck and success with your expedition AND the cause! unfortunately we couldn’t stay for dinner and band
if you’re in the bay area longer, come over for dinner, if you don’t have port supply access to get discounted west marine products, you’re welcome to use mine, even though i think they should and would sponsor you with your own port supply account. inka (510) 682-1044

  • Thanks Rita! I’ll have to try that tea. Lately I’ve been drinking Yogi naturally decaf green tea, and it’s pretty good. The caffeine habit is really hard to kick, it took months for me to overcome the morning tiredness, maybe I just got used to it. I noticed that organic, fair trade coffee is getting easier to find these days. There is some good documentaries about coffee and it’s affect on people and the planet, one is called “Black Gold”, very illuminating.

Roz, glad your talk went well!

  • I’ve had the priviledge of working with Roz a little, but last night’s presentation was my first chance to hear her talking to a crowd – and the room was packed. At the end there was such a long line of people wanting to speak with her and shake her hand that the dinner had to be delayed. If ever you get the chance to hear Roz give a presentation, do not miss it!
