My social life is very active at the moment. In my dreams. No, I mean, literally – in my dreams, I am out and about and partying most nights, often with famous people. Film stars, former presidents (so far only Democrats), and sportspeople, with Posh and Becks appearing with disconcerting regularity.

Why Posh and Becks? No idea. I’d rather Johnny Depp were a regular nighttime visitor (!), but he’s been keeping a low profile dream-wise. Also people from my dim and distant past – schoolfriends and former colleagues I haven’t thought about in years unexpectedly dropping in at random to say hi.

And, of course, many of these social gatherings involve food. LOTS of food.

I dream a lot when I’m at sea. Waves wake me up many times during the night either by crashing noisily into the side of the cabin or by shaking me into wakefulness. So I’m often in the dream phase of sleep, and can usually remember quite a lot of what I was dreaming just before the ocean interrupted me.

I suppose it must be my subconscious making up for what is so significantly lacking in my life at the moment. It’s quite fun, really. I look forward to my sleep for so many reasons – giving my body a chance to recover, getting away from the oars, a time to be dry and (relatively) comfortable – but the thing I look forward to most is the dreaming. As I fall asleep, I never know quite what might happen or who I might meet over the next few hours. Or what I might get to eat.

And luckily, so far, no nightmares. Like, that I’m stuck on a tiny rowboat going around in circles and doomed forever to wander the oceans alone…

Other Stuff:

Actually, I seem to be breaking out of my circles of doom. In the last 24 hours I’ve made a whole 19 miles, which although rather underwhelming is nonetheless my best mileage since 10 days ago. I’m not getting my hopes up – I’ve learned from hard experience that getting hopeful is a sure invitation to disappointment – but it would be really nice if this heralded a period of better progress. Happy August!

Thanks for all the jokes. Aimee is keeping them coming to me along with the daily digest of blog comments, rationed out so I can appreciate each and every one to the full.

  • Roz, last night a few hours after you start your rowing day, I posted the following, which was probably too late for Aimee to include in her daily collection of comments to you.  At the half-way point of my 6-mile walk, I saw the most spectacular crescent for Day 2 — ever! — and wanted to post the photo I took (below).

I am so pleased with the sharpness and speed of my new G4 which replaces the G3 misplaced/taken Friday. Rozlings, check out the pic below.  Roz, repeating last night’s comment, apropos of your “safe insanity” as you slip into dreamy bliss once again this evening.  (My time is now 5:35am, which means yours is now 8:35pm WST. Presume it is still early by your sun?)

Happy August, indeed!  August should be eventful for all…Roz, I know it’s probably after your bed time, but if you happen to be out and about, and if the cloud cover is favorable, the next few nights you might get a glimpse of the crescent moon.

If you do, “give us a wink and make me think of you … and Rita!”

Aug 3 – moon sets at 11:30 PM WST after 10PM sunset
Aug 4 – moon sets at midnight WST after 10PM sunset

    Row winking, Roz!

(Now I can’t get that tune out of my head.)

  • About a million people will point out that although Pirates of Penzance is a great musical, that’s a picture from Pirates of the Caribbean. Must be why you haven’ t met Johnny yet.

    • Thank you, my mistake! I will now alter it. just was not thinking straight, anticipating another visit to the hospital. All is going well, apparently.

      • Sorry to hear about the broken leg and more hospital visits. Hope you heal quickly. Delete my post if you want to, no one else need know.

  • I just hope you’re appropriately dressed for all those parties! i.e. outshining Posh kind of fantasy, not one of those “oh, I appear to have come out in my pyjamas” kind of dreams (or worse…)

  • Thought I’d pop in to say Hi as an old schoolfriend!

Enjoying reading the daily blog. Keep going.

(Hi Tanya, Hi Rita, hope you are both well)

  • “I dream a lot when out at sea…”

sounds like a perfect cadence to the beginning of a poetic verse…

anybody care to take the helm of this one:?

…she did ask for a little levity, yes?

    ~Row Roz Row!

    • Jay, it’s almost a perfect second line of a haiku … I’m not really a very good poet even though my feet are long fellows, but I will give ‘er a try … vaguely zen …

      all thoughts no body
dreaming lots when out at sea
      floating ‘cross mind sky

      Row dreamily, Roz!

  • Roz – I’ve been following you since your first try at Hawaii.  I appreciate your courage and determination.  I was wondering why you don’t post your position on your website any longer.  It would be nice to see your approximate location.

    Cheers,
    magman

  • Periodically, Roz gets questions why she does not announce her location or destination … here is the answer: http://bit.ly/StealthMode

Rita, perhaps this should be included with appropriate verbiage daily along with the Sponsored Miles … just a suggestion.

    Row Stealthily, Roz!

  • I had this exact conversation with my homeopath, a few days ago.  I was asking him “why”, when I am doing a lot of social events, my dreams are basically devoid of people.  But when I am doing more solitary creative things, my dreams are populated with people.  And his answer was that “The mind/body knows that we as humans need human companionship, and when we don’t have a lot of it, the mind will compensate for the lack by interjecting people into our dreams.”  He then laughed, and added that “It gives you all the benefits of human companionship, with none of the hassles.  Having people in your dreams means what you don’t have to put up with their whining, and irritating habits.”  And he laughed again.

  • HEY ROZ!  I am hollerin’ loud so you can hear me all the way over there in the Indian Ocean.  Have you ever had a dream in which you are floating or flying?     Stephen Stewart

  • Roz, I am so thrilled you are beginning to make progress with your rowing again! With the average medium IQ and overall bias of Democrats, (with the exception of John Kennedy) I would think your dream partying would be quite boring! Have you considered a dream about Dr. Ron Paul? 🙂 Gutsy and he knows finance! All the others are what we call Republicrats.Anyways, I worked so hard today in blazing 106 degree heat that I am finding it difficult to sleep. So I guess I will try to dream of lunch with you at the “Nuttin Fancy” Restaurant and before the year’s end! Roger
